Removing cork from handle

Featured Replies

I have a couple of crank bait rods that have over sized handles on them. After a while my hands start to hurt trying to hold onto the rods. I want to shave some of the cork of and was wondering what the best way was. Right now i thinking just carefully remove the material i want and then sand to smooth..Will this work??

Thanks

Sand paper works fine for me.

Yes it will work. :)

Just remember to go very slow and methodical, the cork that has been removed cannot be put back on the grip. When you are done with the final sanding seal the cork on the grip with U-40 Cork Sealer.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!

Dry wall screen works well for shaping. Go slow like RM said. Stop a little shy of desired size/shape and finish with 150/250/400 grit sand-paper. U40 will help preserve the cork and make it easier to clean. Some say they don't like the feel of the sealed cork but I don't find it that much different.
