So I took a trip out to Montrose over the weekend with my Lowrance fish finder & navionics chip.  Does anyone know what is up with the navionics chip being so far off?  The navionics shows lots of water with 50+ feet, but I couldn't find anything over 18 feet. 

I've never been there but always heard it was a really shallow lake, even dangerous if you don't know where you're going. Are you fishing the kayak tournament out there this weekend? The Webapp version is pretty limited in what it shows but it does show lots of water 40-60 feet deep all over the lake.

Yea I'm fishing the kayak tournament this saturday out there.

The Navionics web app isn't even close.  It's the same as what my navionics card showed on my fishfinder when I was out there last weekend.  I just haven't ran across a lake this far off from my navionics card.  And I'm not just talking about a few feet. There were three of us paddling all over the lake and the deepest any of us found was 18 feet.  

I don't know what's up with Navionics but you aren't mistaken about how shallow it is.  

The last time I was in Clinton, I inquired at Everhardts about Montrose.   They said it was pretty shallow - don't bother - low quality ramp.

So I didn't bother going there.   Years ago, I drove out to it once - without my boat and it seemed like a pretty enough lake.  I'd like to know how you did and about the quality of the launch area.

The ramp didn't seem bad to me.  Saw several boats in and out with no problem.

The day of our tournament was pretty rough.  Cold front, blue bird sky, and 35+ mph winds.  Most of the field got skunked but a few of us managed to pull out some decent fish.  They all seemed very healthy and fat, much more so than a lot of the lakes around here.  I had one largemouth that was a few ounces shy of 5 lbs.  From what I've heard the largemouth are hard to find, but when you do they are big.

This is consistent with what I've heard about the lake. Everyone that has fished it compares it to La Cygne. Mostly shallow and not a lot of features, stained water, and bass that are hard to catch but consistently bigger than most other lakes produce.
