Fishin in Ross Barnett with muddy water

Featured Replies

im a a young bass fisherman in south mississippi and i have a tournament in ross in a few days and it has been raining alot there and the water is muddy. i would appreciate any tips yall would be willing to tell me about baits or where to fish or what structure to fish

Muddy or dirty water means decreased visibility for the fish as much as it is for you.

Taking the visualization of your presentation out of the equation, you have to account for other means to attract fish - noise, vibration, deflection, and heavy water displacement. When vision is inhibited, the bass have to rely more on their lateral line. That's why they tend to stick around cover more and that's why you need a lure that doesn't rely on being seen.

Fishing in muddy water is a lot easier than fishing in clearer ones,  MAKE IT LOUD !!!!!, MAKE IT SHINNY !!!!!, MAKE IT EMIT STRONG VIBRATIONS !!!!!, MAKE IT DISPLACE A LOT OF WATER !!!!.

You just got to get it in your mind: BASS DO NOT NEED TO SEE THE BAIT IN ORDER TO STRIKE IT.

Big bladed single blade spinnerbait or chatterbait. Maybe try getting in some of the oxbow lakes off the river where water may be clearer. Good luck, Barnett can be stingy.
