Braid with a leader+micro guides

Featured Replies

I'm having problems with my knot getting caught in the last couple guides of my Duckett Micro Magic Pro. It doesn't get caught when I cast, only when letting a little line out. I just don't want to damage my guides. Anyone know of a smaller knot or a way to solve this?

What knot are you using? I use an Alberto knot and don't have any problems with it going through the micro guides. FG knot is also very compact but harder to tie properly.

The other question is what size leader are you using?

My Legend Tourney spinning rod has micro guides and
I've found 15# YoZuri Hybrid doesn't work too well thru
the guides.

I have little issue with 6#, 8#, and 10....of course

A knot will not damage the guide nor vice versa. A well tied Albright knot should pass as well as anything. "Micro" covers a range of guide sizes. A 4 will pass 50# braid and 12-14# leader. I think the duckett uses even smaller guides but I'm not sure.

Sounds like that rod might not be the right tool for the job if the guides can't pass your desired connections.  Guide size should be selected based on using the smallest possible that can pass your connections.  Rod manufacturers have left a bad taste with some about micros because they slapped them on everything they make and failed to inform the consumer that they may not work in all applications.

I had the original micro magic. I loved the blank but the guides were way to small for any connection knot I could tie. Then I found out about the FG knot and the problem was solved. Look it up. It takes practice but works great.

Looks like I'm gonna try to learn the FG knot. Thanks for the help guys.
