Did ardent quit making the Denny flipping reel?

Probably, I´m pretty sure they didn´t sell a ton. The concept of a dedicated flipping reel is not new and it´s didn´t go well financially for Shimano with their "flipping" reel:

Shimano Bushmaster.

For starters, back in those days practically any reel had "flipping switch" and also, people found out that you can pretty much flip with any reel. 

As far as I know they did. You can flip and pitch with any reel as Raul mentioned. Just be sure to get one with a fast retrieve rate as well as a strong frame to hold up to the abuse. 

You flip without using the reel, pitching you need a reel.
