Mod fast for t-rigs

Featured Replies

I just realized my h2o ethos 6"6 med heavy is a mod fast action. I mainly use t-rigs on it. Should I be worried about fishing t-rigs or should I get a new rod? Thanks. I can't really return it because the store I bought it from is far away. Thanks

What is your question?

My apologies, I didn't really ask my question. Should I be worried about fishing t-rigs with a mod- fast? Should I get a new rod?

Normally I wouldn't pick a mod fast rod for fishing plastics.  However forget the rating for a second.  Question is does the action feel right for you?  Fishing it with braid might make it fine too fish a t rig.  Before buying a new one since you can't return it, no harm in trying it out?

I don't but much thought into certain rods for specific techniques. I have different size an action rods and use them how they feel best. But at times all my rods throw whatever is guna get bit at the time. A Texas  rig will work with any rod but you might prefer it on some rather than others. As the above poster says jut do what feels best

So I have an Abu vengeance 6"9 med heavy fast action. Should I use the vengeance or the ethos with the mod-fast tip for t-rigs? Thanks.

Many, many, many, many years ago I fished Roostertails, Beetle Spins, the occasional crankbait, minnows, leeches, crawdads, grubs (the real ones dug out of a farmer's manure pile with bare hands) and nightwalkers all with the same rod.  Somehow I managed to catch more fish then than I do today with a boatload of rods.  Didn't hurt that fishing was much more productive in the area I moved from than it is in my current area.

Trickworms, my personal choice between the two would be the MHF for T-rigs.  I'd be more apt to use the Mod-fast tip for treble hook lures and some single hook applications such as a spinnerbait although I personally normally use a Fast for spinnerbaits.  I have a couple Mod-Fast / Med-Fast rods that I would have absolutely no problem fishing spinnerbaits with.

Use the mh/f for t rigs and the mh/if for reaction baits.

I use a 7ft medium mod falcon bucoo for soft plastics all the time. No problems. Just set the hook a little bit harder than usual and always have the drag set up right

I have used a medium heavy mod-fast for t-rigs for a while now, mine is a 7'5" though. If u where gonna go with a mod fast rod I'd want it a little longer for more line pick up to drive the hook in. I prefer the feel of a little slower rod

Wouldn't be my first choice but if it's what you've got use it!  People got by for centuries on a stick with a string tied to it.  We all love to nitpick but definitely don't stop fishing it because it isn't ideal.  Maybe come up with a plan to upgrade, but if it's worked for you then I'd say "keep calm and fish on" haha

I have a better hook up ratio with Fast or XF action rods for single hook apps like texas rigs and jigs. I know some guys prefer to use a Mod/Fast JDM rod for deep water football jigs. To me these kind of rods are good at keeping fish from coming unbuttoned once hooked but for me not so much for getting a good solid hook set. I am sure it would work especially if you used braid and the you were not casting great distances.

You worry too much, you have read too much, you have paid too much attention to what you have read and heard.

For many many years I only had one rod, until I purchased my first "real" bass rod ( a Silstar 5´6" pistol grip ) I fished everything I had with that heavy & ugly fiberglass rod my pa got me when I was 9 years old, if I had to put a rod action to that noodle I would say it was XS ( EXTRA SLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW ) , oh yeah, it took a good couple of days between me setting the hook and the rod bending enough to kick in the hook, and still, I caught literally thousands of trout, carp and bass with it.

Mod Fast is not the "ideal" but still you can do a fine job with it.

The vengence combo is good for fishing t rigs and jigs

Use the Abu for heavier set-ups and the Ethos for the lighter ones. You may need to swing a little harder to set the hook with the Ethos, or go with braid as someone suggested.
