Izorline platinum vs Berkeley big game vs plines

Featured Replies

I've narrowed it down to these 2 for a Texas rig, jig, spinnerbait, all around rod. Which one should I use? I fish around a lot of wood, no vegetation

Both good lines.  Both have good abrasion resistance.  A fellow member has used many different brands and feels Platinum has the best abrasion resistance.  I had some on my daughter's reel because she pretty much fishes nothing but Senkos.  Complained of backlashes so I went to Siege for her.  No complaints.  Smalljaw67 tells me Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate mono is the best mono he has ever used.  His advice has always been good.  I'm currently trying some 12#.

Do any of y'all know how much big game you get (yards) from TW for 8.99? Also, how's the sensitivity? And I would get 15# big game, is the memory bad or not? Thanks!

You can get 990 yards @ Walmart!

I find if you fish at least couple times a week the memory ain't bad, if you don't it'll "coil" on ya.

Sensitivity & abrasion wise I've found non better!

The only time I fish with CXX is when flipping to mesquite trees/ huizache-cat nail brush, and that´s cuz pretty much I can uproot the sucker if it plays nasty.

I've used all three. Izor Premium is a hard surface mono and has excellent knot strength, casting ease, and toughness.  But it does develop spool memory, especially in cold weather.  Big Game has a softer surface and lots of guys use it as a good general purpose mono.  I like its medium green color better than Izor's dark green, but it does have a less consistent diameter than the other two.  I like the Pline CXX less than the others.  It's very tough line but to me it seems to have a rather "greasy" surface feel to it and doesn't cast as well as the others.  Of the three, Big Game is the "value leader" and is widely available.  All Walmarts carry it.  All of these lines will develop spool memory during use.  I don't recommend any of them for winter time fishing but they work fine in temperate weather.  I use Izor Premium in the summer and Izor XXX in the winter because the XXX is softer and gets less spool memory.  But if I could use only one, it would be Big Game.
