I started on mono and was fine. But I have found Braid to be easier than mono. Whatever you do don't start on Co-Poly that line still gives me nightmares sometime.

I like braid because it's so much easier to untangle a backlash

Not true.  Elite is just as good.  I am also using some Shakespeare Red Cast that I feel works just as well.  A long time friend always used Stren on his spinning reels.  If it doesn't cause a problem on a spinning reel, then it should be perfectly fine on a baitcast reel.  Many like Super Natural, but I feel Elite is a bit easier.

A line I have never used so can't comment on it.

Something to consider doing after you get set and comfortable with your rig  On all of my baitcasters I spool 1/2 with cheap mono or the remains of some floro/copolymer spool I have left over and then an expensive braid or floro spool will fill more than one reel.  I attach the backing to the braid or floro with a simple double uni knot which works great for me. Usually I can get two or three reels filled like this with one 300 yard spool.  Just a tip to consider.  It makes it much more affordable to use expensive and quality line

Don't trust off-brands and cheap braid.  Loose weaves collect water which causes the line to jump off the spool just after the start of the cast.  Anyone having trouble with casting with braid should compare how their outfit casts in the yard vs on the water.  Buy a high quality name-brand that has a very tight and smooth weave, if you're going to buy braid.

I recommend, like so many others, starting with pure mono, the softer the better, in 12-15 pound test.  When you get that mastered, move on to braid if you want more  sensitivity.  Forget flouro, in my opinion.

Finally, don't even try to cast spinnerbaits up wind for a while.  Concentrate on easy to cast lures like spoons and lipless cranks, and stay away from lures less than half an ounce for a while.
