I recently bought a 6'6" mf avid spinning rod. I paired it with a shimano stradic ci4+ and 6lb yozuri hubrid. 

I bought this rod to be a multipurpose smallmouth river rod. I have a few questions though. I like to fish finesse jigs that I make. They use a 2/0 size 32786 mustad hook and i usually use a paddle tail trailer. Is 6lb yozuri enough line to drive that hook home? I also was hoping to use this rod for lucky craft sammys and gunfish that are about 3/5 oz. do you think this rod is ok for these applications? Im concerned that the hooks that I am using are too big for the 6lb test yozuri. 

 

If not what applications would this rod work better for? Tubes and grubs?

I would try it if it does not wok try P Line CXX in moss green in 6 or 8 pound test.  Just after you spool it drop the spool in hot water for a bit. It seems to help the line get set to the spool.  Helps avoid line issues.  Cxx is really tough line. In tests 10 pound usually breaks around 20 pounds. 

Yo-Zuri #6 has a breaking strength of 11.9 lbs. Although I always recommend #6 for spinning tackle, I generally fish #4. The discrepancy is simply because I don't think most guys can get their mind wrapped around using #4 even though the breaking strength is 8.5 lbs.

Thanks guys. I am more concerned with the line being able to set the hooks properly and using a heavy topwater thats still within the rods weight rating than the bass breaking the line. 

Although I use Yozuri hybrid on multiple rods, I like braid with a floro leader on spinning gear. The only time I switch spools is if I'm fishing weightless and I want the bait to sink faster. My second spool is InvizX 8#.

Use thin wire hooks.  No need to mussle them in with a spinning setup.

The line shiuld be fine for topwater. If using light wire jig hooks most lines can get a good hook set on spinning gear. If using heavier wire hooks I would bump up your line size. I personally fish finesse jigs with medium light spinning rods or medium casting rods with 10-20lb braid and 4-10lb leaders.

That rod would also be good for fishing tubes and jerkbaits
