so since its so hot it might melt my shoes i was going to see if i can flip some heavy cover for bass but im a little confused since im new at bass fishing... is it better to have drag set on real tight if im flipping heavy cover? Usually when i fish for walleye i dont set the drag on real tight 

When flipping and punching for bass you want a reel with a good strong drag and you have to lock the drag down. It may seem extreme but when flipping in the thick stuff you need that stopping power to stop and control the fish.

Keep the drag tight, set the hook and winch the bass out before it turns into the cover. I generally keep my drag looser with light line and light cover. I keep it tighter with heavier line and stouter rods. And when flipping with braid and a pool cue, my drag is pretty much locked down. The line ain't breaking. The rod won't either of you are using the right one.

Id agree with above. You didn't say what line weight or type though. Make sure you have the right line type/strength for the situation at hand.

Difinately not a flipping rod. Max weight a standard MH bass rod can lift is 4 lbs without breaking.

The difference between flipping and pitching is you don't the reel when flipping.

If you're gonna use that rod the best advise I can give you is to use at least 50# braid, lock it down and keep your thumb on the spool..Get it's head up as soon as you can and drag her out. Don't let it go back down, you will not have enough power in a standard med/heavy rod to fight it as WRB said. 

Since you're flippin and not pitchin, it will be easier to horse it in but having the proper equipment would be helpful.

That equipment might work for you depending on how "heavy" the cover is and the size bass you're trying to pull from it. Being that you mentioned walleye fishing I'm under the assumption that you're from north of the mason dixon line and you might be able to get away with it with that gear. A heavy powered would be better suited for it though. 

My drag setting is always the same, slight release.
