Can the H20 Xpress Mettle Reel Gear Ratio Be Improved?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I do not know a lot about how reels operate.

I have one and really like it, but I want to speed it up and use it for a flipping and pitching reel since it re-engages the spool when you depress the thumb button. The 6.3:1 is decent, but I am curious if it can be increased?

probably be cheaper and easier just ot get a different reel i use a quantum accurist since i rarely pitch or flip and with the flip switch on it it seems to work jsut fine for me i think they retail at around 100

The simple answer is no.  Even if  the gearing was available it would be better to get another reel. Unless this is a 400+ reel it is not worth it.  There are lots of really  good reels that are available for less than $150.00  You never said what rod and reel you were using now.  More than likely if the rod is working well for other techniques it would not be ideal for flipping and pitching.  What rod do you use now.

I agree with the others if you want a faster reel the Best solution is to buy a faster reel.  If a new reel is not in the budget then make sure you fill the spool on your mettle all the way to the top to get the most inches per turn out of your 6.3:1 ratio.

It might be possible, but it might become an issue of practicality. If you have to spend 3/4 the price of a new reel to get the parts, you'd be better off paying the extra 25% and having 2 instead of 1.

I was just curious. I have a setup for flipping already, but want to have another for a quick lure/presentation change. The Motive is my next buy RFSims. I've heard it's a decent one for the money.

And it's going to be on a 13 *** 7' Heavy Fast Action.
