Trolling motor prop fell off

Featured Replies

fishing today, my trolling motor prop and everything else fell off. I had to take the prop off to remove some line stuck yesterday, so I must of put it back on wrong. I know nothing about trolling motors since I got it around 2 weeks ago and it was my second trip out. The trolling motor is a 30 pound thrust Ozark trails trolling motor. Does anyone know where I can get replacement parts? I have a spare prop but not the other stuff. Thanks

Should be able to find a pin an such at a local
marine store, or where you bought it?

I lost my prop and pin on a trolling motor once,
too and fortunately had a paddle with me to get
back. Now I keep a spare on hand in my kayak.

I believe Ozark Trails is a Walmart branded motor, and
from what it looks like, it's rebranded MotorGuide.

So based on that, I'd look at a local Bass Pro or other
shop for a replacement pin.

I think Bass Pro's rebranded motor is also a MotorGuide,
so this: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Prowler-Trolling-Motor-Prop-Accessory-Kit/product/98211/

So I went with the kit with the prop nut and shear pins. Does anyone know why the prop fell off? Don't want it to happen again.

Most likely you didn't tighten the prop nut enough. I had one fall off when I was a kid. Pulled up to a spot I was going to fish and the wind was blowing me into it. Kicked the tm on in reverse and nothing.... pulled it up and the prop was gone.

The plastic wrench in that kit will help you get it tight enough, otherwise you can use a pair of pliers to tighten it. Put the handle on opposite sides of the prop nut and use that to snug it up.

So trick worm witch place did you get it from Walmart or Bass Pro I just recently purchased an Ozark Trail model ET 44 and it came with extra prop and I was thinking the same thing what good is a prop without a nut also I see why they give you an extra prop they are made out of plastic where is Minn Kota feels more like a composite resin now the tightening tool on the Bass Pro site looks more like the tightening tool that came with my Ozark Trail which is I believe like everybody is saying is a rebranded MotorGuide. pictures are of the two kits and my tightening tool.

Coulda been worse. A guy on this site had his entire trolling motor fall in the drink

That happened to me when I accidentally hooked the motor with the trailer when I was pulling the trailer out of the water.  I fished the motor out and stupidly tried to use it.  It worked for about 5 minutes then died. I think that if I never tried to use it until it was well dried out, it might have lived.

I put the motor on Freecycle stating that it didn't work and why, and received about 20 emails asking for it in a few hours.  I guess there must have been an easy fix.

I lost 2 props off Minn Kota's while in reverse. Each time the prop hit a rock and spun the nut off the shaft.

I keep a spare with me all the time now.
