Bass in Pittsburgh NH ?

Recommended Posts

I'm heading to Lopstick Cabins in Pittsburgh NH for Labor Day to fish all the big lakes for trout.  Does anyone know if there are any decent bass spots that far north that are not to far from the cabins?  Need a ramp that can handle a 17' Tracker Deep V

Thanks for any info guys.

Well I'm not 100% sure. I lived up there from 12 years old until high school graduation. I did not fish for bass up there. Trout only. I just started fishing for bass last summer (I'm in Maine now). From what I remember I think there may be bass in back lake, don't remember if there is a good launch. If you have time, stop in at the buck rub pub. It's on route 3 (left side going north about 3 miles north of town just past lake Francis boat launch). Depending when you go, there should be someone there willing to talk fishing. It's been a long time since I've been Up there, but when I lived there a good friends mom owned that pub (her name is Sandy, my friends name is Job). From what I hear, many things have changed up there, so my advice may not be worth much. Being a bass lover (for the lack of a better term), all that town needs is bass to be my sportsman's dream spot. Awesome wildlife and outdoors. Some of the best 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. Good luck. I will be just south of pittsburg in Canaan vermont visiting friends. There is a huge softball tournament labor day weekend. Usually 50 or so teams.

Be careful who you ask about bass fishing up there lol, not kidding a lot of the guys are strictly trout fly fishermen and you might get some real odd looks if you're towing a boat and bait casters. If I were you I would hit some rivers/streams and the big lakes for some fat trout then hit umbagog or something on the way down. I have heard of bass in Back lake but that's about it.

I have also heard of bass in Back (and forth) Lake. In fact, if you tell folks you intend to keep all the bass you catch you may hear of a honey hole or two. A lot of the guys up there I talk to during snowmobiling season want the bass gone because they are very protective of the trout up there.

Curious on how you made out?  I did some research as I've been to Pittsburg (snowmobiling only) but never fished the area.  I've also read that Back Lake has smallies in it.
