It probably only needs a drop of oil on each spool bearing.

Ill try that first! Just wanted a little opinion before I tackle it after work.

Just open the palm side, take the spool out.  one drop in the bearing pack on the spool, and one drop on the bearing pack inside the palm side cover.

I had that happen to a brand new lews, adding oil like J said fixed it

Screeching in a reel is often cent brake related. Make sure the centrifugal brake drum is clean and maybe put a light film of oil on it.

If that doesn't fix it , Ill send it your way!

Put a drop of grease on each end of the spool shaft. Experience has shown me when the spool shafts ends are dry the spool will chatter back and forth when you cast because of the tension spring.

I have found this to be the source of "screaming" more often than not. Bad bearings don't typically make that noise. Like DVT said, clean the inside of the brake drum, put a small drop of oil on a cotton swab and wipe it around the drum.

Thanks for the solutions. I believe all are correct in there diagnosis. Unfortunately the owner of the reel (me) :) did not get the spool tension assembly put back together correctly and that allowed many factors to create the problem. First of all I dont have the best vision in the world and that didnt help.  Well there is a little indent on the assembly that must go into a hole in the tension cap which I though was just a painted black dot. Well this threw everything off and out of whack!
