Spybait

Featured Replies

The Spybait technique is one that I have been interested in for a while and have watched a few videos, but would like to ask members here what their experience has been with these baits.

What type of baits seeem to work the best, LC, DUO, Jackall or something else.   Are you fishing it on spinning equipment or casting,  I would like to hear about the setup you use and why you chose it for the technique.  Line choice, whatever you would like to share.

I hope to be able to make some informed purchases and could use some advice.

The Duo bait is what you want. I fish them on spinning gear but if you like BFS gear then it would work as well. You don't want anything heavier than about 6# line.

I know that Duo has about 3 different baits, they have the 80 the 90 and the 80 G fix.  Do you have one you prefer?

I'm also thinking about grabbing one or two and would be interested what other have to say here. I know duo's get a lot of love, but has anyone tried the LC screw pointers or jackal iProp? I was going to use my ML spinning rod and 15lb braid to a 6lb leader.

I tried spybaits for the first time this year-- and what do you know, they work!  I've been successful with the usual recommendations -- duo spinbait 80, 7' ML spinning, 6lb copolymer line, clear water, long casts, sink to desired depth, straight retrieve S-L-O-W.

Sorry, the 80 size is that I have used which is 3/8 oz. The bait is a slow sink/countdown type of bait. It really needs pretty clear water to be affective. The other brands like the MB and LC are ok but they aren't quite as good. They seem to do the best during the spring or fall for me.

Ive caught the most when the fish are suspended and in clear to moderately stained water. My best producer was the duo spinbait 80. I use 6-8 lb mono or fluoro and a ml spinning rod with a light tip

I appreciate the help, going to take advantage of some Holiday sales and pick a couple of baits up.

I use dou's spinbait 80 in morning dawn on a 7'2" ML fast on 6lb flouro. You should fish these painfully slow. When all else fails I throw the spybait and get bit.

Haven't tried it yet but I got an Arashi one recently...
