Heddon Spook

Featured Replies

Anyone have any recommendations about how to properly fish them? I have been trying the "walk the dog" pattern, but without much success. :) Anyone have an helpful hints?

Yea, definetely not as easy as some make it look.

Make sure you have slack in the line as you're twitching it. You want to give it enough slack to turn faicng totally different directions each time you jerk it. Light line seems to help a little too.

Good luck and don't give up.

Ok, I have been using light line (8lb Berkley Lo Vis Green) But I dont think i was leaving enough slack in it. I will deff give it a try tommorrow as the sun rises until about 10:00 depending on what is going on. Thank you very much though!

The spook is a great bait.  Once you get the dog walk down you can do lots of other things with it.

One thing you may want to try to learn is to take up 1/3 of a reel crank with each twitch or snap of the rod tip.  The tip doesn't have to move very far each time and you should move the tip back to the bait slightly before the next one (like on a jerk bait).

Also try different rod levels to see which one works best for you.  For me it is to keep the rod tip down.  I know guys who like it level and one of my friends holds his tip straight up in the air.  I also like a short rod with a pistol grip if I am going to be doing it a lot.

There recently was an article in In-Fisherman about Spooks. The guy said he liked to burn them on top of the water.

i use the sway back spooks ,,,, they seem easyer to work .... they look just like the regular spook but have a bend in the body ... i also like to put a o-ring on the nose and tie the line to the o-ring ,,, seems to let that spook get back and forth quicker and easyier ......  :)
