I'm buying an Aldebaran 50 for my lightweight crank-bait needs and I'm also interested in getting into tuning.  I have 3 Ci4's that I'll start tuning once I have done up the Alde..

As the Alde is dark grey I'd like to add some red parts, upgraded bearings, and a new spool (red :)).  The idea is to have a rig that I can decently cast 1/4 oz cranks, square bills, small jerks, etc.  What should I be looking for?

Also, is there a domestic dealer or should I just use japantackle?

Tuning a reel consists or polishing internals/friction points of a reel.

adding spools/bearings/cosmetic dress up parts are simply just upgrades.

hedgehog studios has really nice parts for pretty much everything.

the alde stock spool is more than capable of bombing a 1/4 oz crank. Once you get down below that weight, the rod becomes almost ad important (if not more) to cast/load these baits.

Agreed. Tuning improves performance, upgrading improves looks and in some cases, performance.

What does BFS stand for?

I'm a proud owner of an Aldebaran as well, if I could afford it I'd switch almost every reel to one  

The only thing i'd upgrade is the handle. if you want a shallow spool and XG ratio, check out the 2016 version.

Will do.  Just want the lower ratio as its for cranks...  I really love the Cronarch Ci4's I have but the Alde is something else..

So Digitaka has two different 2016 Aldebaran BFS reels listed and one does not have the XG in the listing. I am not sure if this is an error because i have not seen a non XG version anywhere else so i would contact them if you decide to check it out.
