What kind of grass is this? It grows like moss on the bottom and only to less than a foot in length. It covers the whole bottom (there are no hard spots in the lake I fish in). Tiny leaves and thin stems. That's a KVD 300 jerkbait in the photo for reference. Thanks!

Its pretty difficult to identify by pictures only. It looks like Chara ( also called musk grass). If it is indeed chara it should have a strong sulfur odor.

It does have a sulfuric "skunky" smell. It's hard to say. But it's EVERYWHERE. It only grows about a foot off the bottom and makes it very difficult to fish anything that contacts bottom.

That's what it is. And............at least here, it's not very fishey, and grows in areas that I rarely fish.

Doesn't look like Chara, which has whorls of leaves. The pic above shows single or paired leaves. Dunno what it is.

Chara is a bear to fish over. The biggest problem is it likes clear water, and often carpets the bottom in "swimming pool" type waters. Which means I'm going to light tackle. With Chara present, I go up to 8 or even 10lb, just to keep those bass from burying in the stuff. I call it "steel wool" for good reason.
