expanding my fishing arsenal

Featured Replies

I have been fishing for a little under 2 years and now wanting to expand my arsenal more. I currently have a 6'6" MH and a 7'0" MH. Any suggestions on a new rod power, length and action?

DVT nailed it. You really want a rod that can give you a bit of delay when a fish hits a bait with trebles. This rod helps fish rattle traps, crankbaits, wake baits, chatterbaits and can work some topwaters also. take a look at a rod like a Dobyns Fury FR 705CB. It is a very versatile rod. It runs $110.  There are other options depending upon your budget.

In today's world with so many great light weight "finesse baits" a good spinning rod ( or several) are a neccessity. To start with just one make it a 6'6" to 7' medium power fast action. Most o fthese rod will say 1/8 to 1/2 or 5/8 ounce lures. St Croix makes some good ones as does Dobyns and Powell. Also look at some of the Abu garcia Ike Series Finess spinning rods. he has some good ones there as well. Match them up with a reliable reel like a Pflueger 6930 spinning reel. That will be a terrific combo for years.

Check out Reed's Sports first.  Some $250-$260 rods for $117 with free shipping.  Spend the extra $7.  You won't regret it.  :teeth:

I would say to look into a 7ft - 7'3 medium or medium heavy moderate or moderate action rod for crank baits, jerk baits and top water treble hooked baits. A 7ft medium fast action spinning rod will cover about everything from drop shots to shake heads to poppers!
