Small Alabama/Umbrella rig?

Featured Replies

Next time I head to my PRIVATE lake in Northern Massachusetts, I would like to try an Alabama/Umbrella Rig. Im not sure the difference between the two. The lake is 75 acres with 25' visibility. Rock, Sand, and  Docks along the shore. Laydowns are available too. Drop off is from 5' to about 15', 25' from shore. Bass are plentiful. Had several days where it is cast after cast. Fish size ranging from 1-6 pounds. Would a small umbrella rig with 4-6 weightless Keitechs work? I don't really have a rod that's good for big alabama rigs. Thanks!

It will probably work but will be hard to keep the bait down with them weightless. I've thrown a decent size one with my Mh jig rod, not the best setup but it works. They also make rigs with willow blades on the outside arms. you only rig the center wire with swimbait. Don't be afraid to try things. I use to fish all kinds of lures with only 2 different rods.

Say whut ? How about using 1/8 oz jigheads ? any rod can handle a little bit over 1/2 oz.

One time I did throw an a-rig with only two 1/16 swimbait heads on the bottom to keep it balanced with everything else weightless because I was fishing a river that is typically less than 6' deep, and it worked, but in your situation I would go with what @Raul said and use 1/8 or 1/16oz heads.

Keitech swimbaits would definitely be a good choice for the rig, they work for me! The Picasso school e rig junior has worked for me in very clear water, the wire is a good color for it.

Ive actually thought of getting a small arig for throwing 3 inch swimbaits and wanted suggestions as well.

I have a larger arig and a rod to throw it with but wanted something more finesse

YUM Yumbrella Flash Mob Jr. Rig the outside arms with LFT Live Magic Shad on 3/0 Offset Worm Hooks, weightless. Rig the center arm with a Johnson Silver Minnow.
