Plano Elite vs. Plano Prolatch Stowaway

Featured Replies

Googled all over the web and I can't find an answer to this simple question.

Which is considered a more high-end box, Plano Elite or Plano Prolatch Stowaway boxes? I simply want the most durable. Their website does not make a clear distinction and their nomenclature of 'pro' and 'elite' in the product names is also confusing.

Further confusing is why they appear to show boxes with an Elite-style latch on the Prolatch page: http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/stowaway-utility-boxes/prolatch-stowaway-utility-boxes, yet the Elite boxes have their own dedicated page here. http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/plano-elite-systems/plano-elite-organizers

Plano if you're listening, can you improve the differentiation between your products through a description and/or better navigation links on your website please? Thanks.

I'd say the Elite, mainly because it's "Elite" which is more high end than "pro" - lots of bass "pros" out there, but only 111 Elite anglers , they're also tactic specific as well as 2-3 times more expensive. When I'm not using a paper bag, I use the ProLatches.

I have a couple of the elites and now longer use them, nice but can't fit as many cranks in as the pro latch. I just rubber band the trebles together and they are easy to get out of the box. The only reason for the elite style box is if you have cranks where you are concerned about the paint getting jacked up from trebles rubbing against them.

The plano elite has better latches that, for me, are more durable and less prone to breaking.

Thanks guys. It looks like I'll go with all Elite boxes.  Appreciate the feedback. Cheers.

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Plano advertises the Elite line of boxes as bait / lure size specific  and the ProLatch series is touted for "general" use.

If you want the most durable, that would be the waterproof 3700 size, of the plano brand. Alot heavier plastic.

Thanks guys. Ordered several of the 3700 Elite boxes. Now to figure out what kind of lures to fill the boxes with. :D

Maffia boxes I hear are the toughest. I don't own any as the price is stupid imho but if you want strong they are stout.

This. There isn't a plain jane 3700 Elite. I have both the ProLatchs for general use and a few Elites for the specific boxes such as spinnerbaits. The quality looks the same to me. Just different layouts.

Here are all the 3700 series I found where the latches in the photos appear to be the same as Elite latches. I'm not positive though. Perhaps someone can confirm if the CDS and Hydro-Flow boxes also have Elite latches?

3700 Series Boxes

3707 04 - Spinnerbaits (and/or Jigs)
3707 05 - Spinnerbaits & Buzzbaits
3707 07 - Medium Crankbaits
3707 08 - Large Crankbaits

3740 10 - Waterproof
3743 10 - Waterproof Deep

3770 00 - CDS Stowaway Utility Box
3771 00 - CDS Stowaway Utility Box (Thin)

4370 00 - Hydro-Flo Stowaway Utility Box (3700 series)
4373 00 - Hydro-Flo Stowaway Utility Box (3700 series) (Thin)
