Need help with type and size hook for ZOOM TRICK WORM and ZOOM FINESSE WORM and ZOOM MAGNUM FINESSE WORM please..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

 

I don't fish these exact worms much as I don't do finesse but here are a few places I found to have some specific commentary and info on hooks for each worm.

He ( Marty Stone ) has three primary ways to fish the new lure, all old standbys with a twist: He’ll Carolina rig it with a one to one and a half ounce Tru-Tungsten weight and a Youvella 4/0 EWG hook. He’ll put that on 17 lb. test Vicious fluorocarbon (both main line and leader) and the coup de grace is a pair of Tru Tungsten Force Beads, one 8mm and one 6mm. “I’m a huge believer in those beads,” he said. “They draw a lot of strikes.”

 

 

His second rig is a Texas rig featuring his signature T-Rig weight, also from Tru-Tungsten, usually in 3/8 ounce, but he’ll bump it up to a half ounce if it’s windy. He said that “the color (of the weight) doesn’t matter” but he’s sure to add a single blood red Force Bead to the mix. Again, the 4/0 EWG gets the job done, but he often goes down to 15 lb. fluorocarbon.

 

 

Finally, he employs the Magnum Finesse Worm weightless. It may be the “finesseyist” of the three approaches, so it comes as some surprise that it’s the one that he pairs with the heaviest terminal tackle, often a 5/0 hook and 20 pound line. His explanation is simple – fished this way the lure is a big bass magnet. With that said, he can’t wait to use it in the early season events at Amistad and Dardanelle, and expects it will play a significant role in tournaments at Smith Mountain Lake, the Mississippi River, Kentucky Lake and Guntersville. In fact, it promises to be on his deck, in one form or another, nearly every day this season. His favorite color is Watermelon Candy, but Green Pumpkin and Watermelon Red aren’t far behind.

 

3/0 gami ewg on the regular trick worm.  Helps it sink and the tail still floats.

Short answer: 2/0 EWG would work fine for all of those

 

Bass fisherman's answer: I'd use a 2/0 or 3/0 offset or EWG for trick worms, 1/0 or 2/0 offset or EWG for finesse worms, and 2/0 or 3/0 EWG for mag finesse worms. That's only if we're talking about Texas rigging.

 

Now, you can also choose between heavy duty / superline or regular gauge / thin wire hooks based on the rod and line you're using and what type of cover you're fishing. You could also use any of those worms on a shaky head, basing your head weight and wire gauge on application and equipment once again. If you are using a texas rig the same thing applies for choosing your weight type, material, and of course, weight. Unless you're throwing weightless.. However if you want to drop shot those you need to decide weedless or regular nose hooking and once again choose hook size and wire gauge based on equipment, depth, weight size, etc. I almost forgot to mention wacky rigging....

Hook size is determined by the thickness of the piece of plastic!

One could substitute EWG in the same sizes

I use a 3/0 skip gap..that hook hold's em straight like no other.

Trick worms - wacky, use a 2 to 2/0 wacky hook

For TX, mojo, split shotting I like a 2/0 - 3/0 
O'Shaughnessy bend hook.

 

Zoom Finesse - wacky, 4-1/0 wacky hook

For TX, mojo, split shotting, 1-1/0 and on occasion
a 2/0 O'Shaughnessy bend hook.

 

Haven't used the Magnum finesse worm.
