State parks to camp/fish near west TN

Featured Replies

My family and I took our first glamping trip during fall break in Oct 2016. We went to Fall Creek Falls in Spencer, TN and had an amazing time. We really liked the inn that was right on the water (I fished from and caught a bass on the 2nd story balcony-had to run downstairs to release). The restaurant that served all 3 meals was within walking distance and the state park with countless walking trails was also within walking distance. We almost never needed to haul the kids in the car to make a drive. The only thing I wish it allowed was a gas powered boat (electric only allowed at that lake) even though I did not own one at the time.

Fast forward to today day and I now own a gas and electric powered tin boat. We are looking for recommendations on a similar glamping trip for spring break 2017. Have narrowed it down to reelfoot lake and pickwick. Leaning towards pickwick as their inn sounds a little more convenient than the reelfoot inn and only half the price.

I would appreciate any different recommendations and/or reviews of any you've stayed at within 3 hours of Memphis, TN. Thanks in advance!

Dude I got no recommendations for ya but this sentence made me laugh. I just picture someone running down the hallway with a bass in his hands screaming "Its a monster!".

I have talked to a lot of people while camping locally and they say reelfoot camp ground sucks.  I plan on checking out the same reelfoot resort in that you are talking about.  I will have info when i go up there in the early spring to scope out the situation.  If your free maybe we could meet up and fish while were there.  I will drag my YAK up there but if i stay in the resort later in the season i will rent a boat.

TVA Park just below Pickwick Dam is AWESOME!

Botel Restaurant & motel immediately adjacent to the park.

I have fished Reelfoot and it is a beautiful lake with great crappie fishing. That being said, it also is shallow and absolutely littered with stumps, above and below the water line. At a minimum prop damage is to be expected so be prepared(spare prop, etc). May even consider a rental boat. I don't think I traveled more than 25 yards between impacts for 3 days. lol. I believe Pickwick may be a better option for your family although I have no personal experience on Pickwick. Reelfoot is also crowded or was when I fished it.

Definitely something I'll never forget. As the years pass by, it'll go from a 1lb'r to 4 ;)

We were considering the blue bank resort. Besides being double the price of the pickwick inn, the biggest downfall is having to drive into the state park. A huge inconvenience if the wife and kids wanted to start their day early if I was still fishing.

Sounds like Glenn springs with stump city.

I believe this is where we stayed. It was a package deal that included room, breakfast, bait and boat/motor(14ft tin boat w/5 hp motor). It was not a bad deal but you need trolling motor and a fish finder/depth finder would be nice. You are also limited to where you can fish by the motor size.
