Cold water crankin

Featured Replies

The ponds locally were frozen for a few days but was too busy to drop a line when they opened  until today. Ironically it was sleeting during my outing. Water temp was 40-41 and they were pretty fiesty hitting the crank. Glad to see a decent amount of 50 degree temps coming this week.

Still going with that minus1! Curious, as usual...

So where are those fish? How deep is the spot? How far are those fish moving to strike? What are the prey fish in that water? Very curious. Thanks.

The minus 1 is killer at alot of ponds around here. Water depth is 2-4ft where they are hitting. There are bluegill, yellow perch, crappie and pickerel in this pond.

They must be breaking the surface to take? I remember you saying that you had to slow the retrieve some, but slowing a 1minus must mean it's fished as a waker?

nice fish that's what you call toughing it out ,in that weather. but you cant hit a home run unless you swing the bat!! tight lines, warmer weather is coming soon

They are hitting it around 6 inches below the surface I would guess. There were a few bass and pickerel that smacked at it with a few connecting while it was in wake mode.

Seems like a fun day... What are everyone's favorite crankbait?

In cold water, my favorite crank is definitely the shad rap.

Nice going!  Those 1 minus baits can be killers at certain times.

Good job.
