So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Took a friend who grew up fishing Toledo on occasion. We caught 11 and took 6 of 'em home. I'm liking San Miguel more than La Nana.

Toledo Bend - San Miguel 5/9/20
On the lake at 8:00am and off at 8:45pm. Stained to muddy water with temps between 70 - 75. Ambient temps from high 50s to high 60s. High thin cloud cover all day. Weather report said 5 - 10mph wind, it was wrong. Was more a steady 15mph wind until late evening then became calm. Had a co-angler this time. He grew up fishing Toledo on a regular basis from Converse to Bayou La Nana. We re-visited some of his honey holes. We did try one hump during the day but neither of us wanted to fight the wind for long. Most were caught on soft plastics and others on spinner baits in 10 fow or less. 11 fish were caught and hookset was missed on 3. 6 were put in the live well to be taken home for the fryer.

Personal Best!
Good job! Did your spinning rod have a bend in it? Sounds fun. Congrats on the PB.

Toledo Bend - San Miguel 5/2/20
Some would say hard headed, OCD, crazy and downright stupid. I would not argue with any of 'em. All I know is catching 50+ fish in 20+ fow sounds fun and I want some of dat.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Caught 2 last Saturday in shallow muddy water on texas rigged plastics. Most of the day was spent idling and looking at electronics. Looking for fish in 10+ fow is a test of patience. I do stop and wet a hook every once in awhile just to practice techniques and hoping to get lucky to put one in the boat occasionally. Gonna be getting hot soon. That will end the all day fishing trips to mid lake. Thinking of launching from Jolly Rodgers, only 1 hour from the house, when summer comes around. 2 hour round trip drive for 5 - 6 hours of fishing sounds good. The 1 hour round trip for 5 - 6 hours of fishing on Caddo sounds a little better. Might try every other weekend between the lakes. A friend is coming this Saturday. He takes 'em home, fries 'em up and eats 'em. I think 14" and above can be kept, is that true? And the limit is... 5 per person in the boat?

Toledo Bend - San Miguel 5/2/20
On the water at 8:30 and off at 7:45 Stained to muddy water with temps in mid 70s. Ambient temp mid 60s to high 70s. Had all sorts of cloud clover, in the morning high puffy scattered clouds with contrails (maybe) that were long and spread out, then low light gray clouds that covered the sky and finished with Blue Bird skies. No rain fell on Rosie. Wind was steady throughout the day causing a heavy chop. Started shallow, then deep, then shallow. Threw plastics, crank baits, spinner baits, carolina rigs and chatter baits. Spent the majority of the day idling and looking at electronics off shore. When structure was found with bait fish nearby I fished breaks on the structure. Still have not seen the small dots of schooling fish but still looking. Have been studying the recently bought Lakemaster card along side the Hook N Line map. Have pinpointed some off shore structure that will be looked at this weekend. Hoping for a higher catch count to report next week. Caught 2, both shallow on texas rigged plastic.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Is there a public launch further South of Bayou La Nana that is close to the bridge? Put another way... ...where is the closest public launch on the Louisiana side South of Bayou La Nana? Preferably a sheltered - off the main lake - never know about the wind. How is the fishing in Bayou San Miguel? Off shore fishing better on Louisiana side or Texas side?

Caddo Lake - Jeems Bayou and Main Lake 4/25/20
On the water at 9:00 and off at 5:30. Went with a friend in his boat. Water was stained to muddy. Ambient temp mid 50s to mid 70s. A few high puffy clouds. Saw no contrails. Water was 2' above pool and holding. Started in Jeems where I caught 1 fish with a toad on a grass line and he caught 1 with a spinner bait in muddy water in 2 fow with no trees or grass close by. No more bites in Jeems. We headed to main lake at 1:00. Started fishing tree islands then grassy trees. No joy. Then my friend caught another 1 with a spinner bait in shallow muddy water with no trees or grass. We both put 2 in the live well. He also had 2 at the boat that got off, caught a gar and a fingerling that was thrown back to be caught another day. I had 2 bites and put both in the live well and both of mine were bigger than any of his bass! Gotta take it where you can.

Toledo Bend - Bayou La Nana 4/24/20
On the water at 7:00 and off at 6:15. Stained to muddy water with water temp in high 60s to low 70s. Ambient temp high 50s to mid 70s. Started with Blue Bird sky, then high puffy clouds blew in from the north, then Blue bird sky again, then high thin clouds. Morning wind was a gentle breeze from the south and afternoon wind had Tranquillty Bay white capping. Saw a couple of contrails that were short and disappeared quickly, Buck sez that ain't good. Lake level was about 1' above pool and falling. Started shallow at community hole, actually what I guess would be a shallow hump close to shore. Bass were actively feeding, busting the surface, chasing baitfish way up in the brush and grass. Could not get my soft plastic back that far, , caught zero, nada, zilch, not a thing. Talked with another boat with 2 fishermen and they had the same result. I tried soft plastic, crank bait, topwater and spinner bait. They tried soft plastic and topwater. Headed off shore in search of structure looking for schools and/or big uns. Wet hooks on a hump with 15 fow on top, old roadbed intersection, break line around a 10' flat and a not well defined point, all in 10 to 20 fow, some had cover (or as Buck sez - breaks). Sorta considered 10' to be shoreline ifn that makes sense. No joy. Was in the area where I saw other boats searching in the past so might have been on the right track. Did this for 4 - 5 hours then the wind picked up, headed back to the Bayou. An observation. First thing in the morning, on the way to the community hole, I'm running side scan. Saw NO baitfish where I usually see baitfish in 10 fow of water or less. When I went off shore baitfish were hanging out in 20 fow and they were every where! Saw them jumping out of 1 - 2 fow at the island and in 20 fow off shore, no where in between. Hmmm. Caught 1 in 3 - 4 fow in a cove. Fished the banks to the mouth of coves Threw everything. Briefly thought about throwing the tackle boxes full of lures at 'em but sanity won. I'll be back.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I've been fishing Lanan this spring. Most of my experience is shallow lake with trees and grass. Keep that in mind while reading the low caught fish count. Water color is right on. Lanan is fishing slow for me. Catching 1 here and there. Below the bridge water is stained, above the bridge the water goes from stained to muddy.

First official quarantine fishing trip! (Success)
Uh, one suggestion, next time tie on the lure that is catching fish! Def a crank bait day.
