I just purchased a mojo bass 7ft med.heavy moderate fast action and this is the only rod that my local retailer sold that was close to all around and having a handle length I was comfortable with, should this rod I got be good for doing about everything and just as a all around rod? I know gander mountain has a 7,1 med heavy fast and that's the one I originally wanted but my local retailer didn't have that one so I just went with the mod fast but would the mod fast be more versatile? Or should I take it back and get a fast action one.

Being a MH and St. Croix, it'll probably suffice.

I find SC rods to be a tad stiffer than their ratings.

 

If you are worried, return it and get the fast.

Okay thankyou, I've heard they were stiffer and I want that, I'm just worried about the tip and if that moderate fast will be good enough for about everything, or the fast will be better, I don't want too stiff but I want kinda like a perfect feel 

 

That moderate action will not be ideal for plastics, but it should work well for cranks, spinner/chatter baits, topwaters, etc. 

I read that Moderate is good for treble hook applications and a fast rod is good for Plastics like T-rigs, Jigs, small plastic swim baits, tubes, etc.

Okay but this is a moperate fast which is faster than a moderate but less than a fast action, kinda in between, so that's what I'm really confused about

That rod is "technique specific" for spinnerbaits.  To me, that translates to: spinnerbaits (obviously), bladed jigs, buzzbaits, and possibly large lipless cranks around grass.  Knowing that St. Croixs are usually a little more stout than most other rods with the same ratings, I bet you could get away with throwing t-rigged soft plastics with it as well. It probably won't be any good for heavy duty applications but I'm sure it will be quite versatile otherwise.

Okay so I couldn't throw like a 1/2 ounce jig or a 3/4 ounce jig and things like that, is it my best bet taking it back?or keeping it

Its a crank rod.If you want the GM MHF bring the SC back and order the rod at GM.IM sure its free shipping at that point.

it is becuase of that certain price point but im trying to save myself a trip lol im only 16 and ive taken back one of them already becuase i was unsure of the specs of the rod and i was fine with this rod but now im second guessing myself because of the action.

You can use that rod for jigs and such it just will not be ideal. Using braid will help cover up the moderate-fast action if used for jigs. I just ordered that rod from my local tackle shop and plan on using it for jigs although not primarily for jigs.

okay thankyou for the info, i was just clarifying that up if i decide to throw on a jig out on the water but i am going to be using braid on it aswelll and use a variety of lures or whatever one i decide

I throw jigs that size on my Kistlers and they both have moderate fast tapers.  They're both heavies though.  If you want a rod specifically for jigs then the mhf is the better bet (between the two).  

 

It's definitely not a crank bait rod though.

I also have this rod it's good for mostly everything spinnerbaits obviously squarebills swim jigs plastics great rod for a one rod one reel fisherman.

If by all around you mean cranks , spinners and plastics, so think you'll like it. 

I own that rod and I feel like the tip is too soft for bottom contact techniques. It has backbone, but setting the hook would be a chore from a distance. 

I think that the plain old 71 mhf is the best all around rod and if I had only one, I'd take that one. 

If you want to throw stuff with trebles than spool it with mono and back off your drag. 

Id also consider the medium fast model if I used braid but it doesn't fish heavier cover as well as the med heavy version and again, setting the hook from a distance with a lure like a frog is a chore for me with that rod

yeah, ive been thinking about that but it should be a little easier with braid since it doesnt stretch and the hooksets shouldnt break my back like mono or flouro would with the stretch, the rod feels nice and lightweight, never felt anything like it before, i havnt felt the fast action one so i dont know

The spinnerbait model can do a lot, but it is not my first choice as an all purpose rod the mojo lineup. Give it a shot and if you don't not like it, get the mhf model.

okay, i felt the medium fast and the handle seemed a little shorter and i couldnt get over that shortness compared to the spinnerbait rod, if it had the longer handle i woulda walked right out with that one

 

I have two of these rods and use them for moving baits.  I can confirm what many before me have said - great rod for cranks, lipless, square bills, spinnerbaits, smaller swimbaits.  

 

I've used them for shakey heads, t-rigs and jigs.  They'll work just fine for stuff under a 1/2oz... start to get a little mushy beyond that.

okay thankyou for the feedback,it seems like it will be a great rod for spinnerbaits basically what it is rated at, being me i would always end up never using a crankbait or spinnerbait on "that" rod and if i did it wouldnt be my main setup, keep in mind im fishing ponds and barely go to lakes aswell, but i havnt really fished with it yet, im just going by what people say at the moment before i decide to take it out,
