Does this Pond have bass

Featured Replies

Hello I'm new to the forum and relatively new to bass fishing I'm from socal and I don't go as much as I'd like and I'm not very successful. now to my question:

There is a pond by my house that I have fished out of it's pretty big and from the looks of it I'd say relatively deep but I haven't been having any luck there, the pond is fed by the Santa Ana River which people catch bass every day is there any chance that this pond wouldn't have a bass population if the rest of the river does I have seen some top water bites early in the morning and sunset but I think they might be trout. Is there any chance that there aren't any largemouth and how can I find out for sure?

I'd look for other signs of wildlife.  Are there birds that hang around? Frogs? Snakes?

If the river feeds into the pond there should be bass and other species there.

To locate them find some cover to fish around or take some live bait and make sure there are smaller baitfish in the area.

Thank you! There are frogs and a ton of tall grass surrounding the open water Its a lot bigger just covered In tall grass I'll try the live bait option and also I think I may have seen a turtle

First thing I would do would be to check the state regulations, better make sure you're OK to even fish there and that there aren't any gear restrictions. If your state is anything like mine they will say what type of fish are present as well as the season, access, etc.

Go there with a rod and reel and start casting away...

I'm being serious here..... Rig up a 5 inch Senko in color 297 (Green Pumpkin Black Fleck) either wacky or Texas style and toss it.  If there are any size bass in that water they will bite it.

Welcome aboard!

Definitely want to make sure you're allowed to fish it.

Are there any "no trespassing" signs?

If nothing is in the way of fishing it, I second the wacky

rig recommendation, and go with a Bass Pro Stik-O, or

a Yum Dinger if an actual Senko is too expensive for you.

Another color that works great is watermelon magic.

I was going to say to try that, or hell even a mepps or a rooster tail...

Post a link of the pond if it's not some secret fishing hole, which it doesn't sound like it is from your catch ratio. :)

Does it have a name?

Try this. Its a J.W. Fisher Sealion 2. It says you can locate, inspect and video tape underwater without you having to go underwater. It has 4 high speed motors, a 2200 lumen LED light, front and rear facing cameras with tilt and pan options and is rated for a depth of 1000 ft. Its only $29,995 U.S. but maybe you can find it on ebay cheaper. But seriously, fishing late in the evening and early in the morning with soft plastics and topwater baits should let you know if there are bass in the lake. Go luck.
