Bassmaster magazine has a feature article by Mark Hicks "bass fishing would not be what it is today without the innovators and anglers who called Texas their home".

I lived in Texas for 9 years. Got my BA

degree in Texas.

I was granted citizenship thereby and

to this day say, "don't mess with Texas".

:)

Being an Okie, I have a predisposition to be anti-Texas.  Being an OU alumni/employee only makes it worse.  My mom is a Texan and we always get into it.

But it's hard to argue the prestige of the fisheries - and anglers - from the state. I will agree not to mess with Texas as it relates to bass fishing... but that's it!

How many bass anglers wouldnt have at least 1 texas water on their bucket list to fish? Probably just the anglers that fish/live there.

I guess I don't know. but I'm going to go to lake fork next month and give it a try. and am smiling to get the chance:D

I will give Texas their props,  Their Game & Fish has done a great job in focusing on growing and managing Big Bass lakes and making it affordable for out of state guests to fish those lakes.  Most other states gouge the non residents with license fees where Texas does not.  I used to fish Fork twice a year and always felt welcomed by the local businesses.  The only thing Texas could use pointers on is their BBQ.

No state can claim the history, number of top quality bass lakes, excellent bass management programs and sure numbers of skilled bass anglers as Texas and it kills me to admit this.....they invented the Texas rig!

As for quality lakes Florida started it, California continued it, & Texas holds the title now!

As for top anglers too many to name!
