Need input on Apontus trolling motor.

Featured Replies

I am getting an inflatable boat (an Intex Mariner 4 to be exact) because I need something that's portable and will fit in my car. So I was looking for a trolling motor to go with it and I happened upon these https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-55lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/161810241 and https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-46lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/140915089

According to some research the brand is Apontus. Anyone have any experience with this brand (or know who manufactures it)? Also, if you're in the Fort Worth area, would a 2 or 3 blade prop be better for the lakes around here? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard!

Never heard of the brand, tho on the site

they say the brand is costway. Apontus the

upstream manufacturer?

I suppose the only way to know is to try one

out. Prices are quite attractive, though for me,

I'd probably stick with MinnKota based on my

experience...

Never heard of it either. I would say if you can find a Minn Kota or Motorguide at about the same price. I would go with one of them. If this motor is way cheaper then I would probably try it. Make sure it has a good warranty. Wally World is pretty good at taking things back. As far as the prop, either 2 or 3 blades will work OK.

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

My input is - Buy a Minn Kota or a Motorguide

Just so it doesn't "Costway" more in the long run.

For a few bucks more https://www.universalmania.com/collections/trolling-motors/products/minn-kota-endura-c2-freshwater-trolling-motor-50lbs-42

2 blades is for cutting thru weeds and 3 is for power. If you are fishing weedy lakes, go with a 2 blade

I believe you have the blades backwards. 2 for power and 3 for weeds.....

Thanks for the replies. Should have clarified. It looks like it is sold by Costway on Walmart's site. I think that's why it says Costway is the brand. I found it sold through Sears and Kmart under Apontus. Then I found it under the GoPlus name on Amazon. Looks like they go under many different names. I'm really trying to find a budget one. I read the Ozark Trail trolling motor is a rebranded Watersnake but they don't have any available on the Walmart website https://www.walmart.com/ip/Alloy-Transom-3-Blade-Trolling-Motor/48745218 I was really wanting to spend less than $150 so that would be perfect but I may just have to spend the extra $50 on a Minn Kota. If you have any more suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Minn Kota has a $20 mail in rebate on the motor I posted earlier. Just go to the promotions section on their website. Motor comes with a 2 year warranty

Just updating. Went with an Endura C2 40. Got it on Jet for $136 so after rebate I'll have paid  $116. Pretty good deal I'd say :D. Thanks for all the suggestions.
