What about everyone else?

Way2slow :D  20' Javelin, 225 Evinrude, lightning gear case, 10" jackplate, 26" tuned raker prop, fully loaded with two 220 pound men and livewell full.

Glass smooth water, 70 - 71,  small chop on water 72 - 73.  heavy chop with small white caps on the water when a good wind's blowing so the hull can get free, about 76, all gps speeds.  My average cruising speed is between 45 and 55, cost a whole lot less to feed all them ponies at that speed.

I was thinking more about my cruising speed, too. Saves gas, and your @#$, I mean back, also!

My "Little Blue" '03 Lowe 170 w/ Evinrude 90 does 51-52 speedo, 54-55 GPS.

But at about 35 mph or so that 'Rude is so quiet you can talk w/out yelling, more important it just sips gas. On my break-in weekend on Beaver last year I thought my gas gauge was broke 'til it moved down a notch the second morning!

20' Champion w/225 Yamaha V-Max, 27" Tempest Plus, 8" jackplate.

Run almost identical numbers t Way2slow

Now I know why Way2slow and Al Wolbach are busting my balls on the advice needed thread.

RSBreth,

That's why we buy these 20' 1,800 pound hulls.  We can run 70 mph on moderate chop and through other boat wakes and hardley feel them.  I can ride and drink a cup of coffee while you're getting your eyeballs bounced so hard it takes five minutes for everything to settle once you've stopped the boat.

As I said before, the Big motor is not for speed, on a fast hull, yes it gives you speed but on most hulls, it's just gives you the ability to get on plane with a load without having to fight and strain when you have a couple of people and a full load in the boat.

14' jon boat. minn kota 46# trolling motor with myself, my dad and all my gear can hit a blinding 3.1 mph according to my gps. 8-)

17' glass boat. 115 johnson (with 140 carbs, reeds, and bubble exhaust), 54 mph gps.  plane out is almost instant, and the ride is good in rough water.

Also have a same year 85 hp as a backup. I bought it for parts, and low and behold, a new fuel pump and it ran great. With it on there (I took it to the lake one day to set it up), and got 37 mph gps

I'm right around 60 - 62 but I haven't GPS'd it yet.  I have gone to a new 4 blade Predator and am looking to up that a couple mph. At least I'll get a smidge more bow lift.

53 on the gps     the altitude here is a performance killer

1975 Lund trifoil with a 2 stroke 85 HP Suzuki.  With 2 guys onboard, I can get 42 mph, which is a little scary for a boat that doesn't corner well!

2000 sprint 221 pro, Merc 225 EFI, 12"j/p,trophy 25P.

72 gps on smooth water, 75 gps w/light chop, 75 on small white caps. fully loaded and fueled

as of right now, as fast as i can walk in my wading pants...lol, but in about 2 weeks me and 2 other buddies are chippin in for a nice little 10-12' jon boat.'

17ft Bass Tracker Tournament V-17 W/ 45Hp Mercury Classic 50, with full fishing load and my 260lb self I get about 27-28mph.  I actually get better MPH with less chop, if it's really bad out I drop to 25-26. I also only loose about 1-2mph when I have two people in the boat.  The downside is  I have to run full throttle all the time, but I have never used more than 5 gallons of gas in an outing and that was a FULL day with multiple long runs.

1959 Grumman 14' aluminum with 1963 Mercury 9.8 hp - 10mph (GPS), give or take a few.

But that's the real reason I really want the 115 on my boat- to catch more air jumping wakes,  eyeballs bouncing and all. It's what summer on Table Rock is for..

No, seriously, I was in a 21 ft Skeeter w. 225 Vmax on it this spring, and well, we couldn't keep a$#es to seat being boat #118 in a 200 boat tournament, we hit a wake coming out near Kimberling City so hard my boater would have pulled the kill switch--- if he had remembered to put in on! Served as a good reminder. His speedo was broke, maybe we were going faster than 70?

Been there, done that too, there's been many times when I've had total air under boat and motor when running skinney water and have to make a close pass behind another boat but even then it's not a bone jarring landing.   I was just refering to a your normal pass down a rought water lake and have room to work boat traffic.   I also have one of those tin can bass boat and trust me, I can totally relate to the ride of one.  I never run that thing very fast when the water gets choppy.

17' 1989 Tracker pro team 175

average speed of 32.
