Ram Mount Question

Featured Replies

I've got a ram mount for my Helix 5 on the bow and Helix 7 at my console.

Do you guys leave the electronics on the mount when trailering the boat to and from the lake, or do you disconnect them and put them in the truck?

Thanks in advance.

I disconnect, mounts will hold during trailering by why risk damage from debris kicked up from the road?

I never leave my chartplotter on the boat.  It takes a minute to unscrew the ball-joint

and disconnect both cables. When your trailering, your boat takes a much harder pounding

than your tow car, not to mention the odds of theft while you're in a restaurant.

I have Garmin finders and they are quick disconnect.  I leave the bracket for the one on the console on the boat and just tilt it down when I'm trailering.

My electronics travel in my tow vehicle. They ride on the boat from the ramp parking lot to the water and then back to the ramp parking lot.

I leave mine on. I have e-locks on the ram and the graph.

What fastners are you using to attach the ram to the unit?

just ss bolts and lock nuts. I'm never out of sight of my boat for more than a few minutes. when staying at a motel, I remove them. if someone somehow gets my units, lots of luck. those e-locks are not easy to get off without damaging the unit.

Thanks guys; I had a Lowrance Elite 5 and the plugs got bent from being removed and re-installed.

They are pretty flimsy if you ask me and it took forever to get the correct placement again.  I've been a little gunshy about the plugs ever since but hopefully the Humminbird units stand up a little better.

I pull my units off their bracket before I leave the ramp. I leave the empty bracket and ram mount on the boat, so when I put the units back on they're right where I left them. After they come off they boat they go into a padded case for travel.
