So I am hoping somebody can give me some advice. I have a 2016 Legend Elite and I noticed this past week that it is slightly bent in the upper end of the rod. This is caused by me and not by st.croix. Anyway, a person I trust told me I could I could hang it by the tip to straighten it out. Will this work? Could it damage the rod? I don't think the rod being bent will effect its performance, its just paranoia thing. Any advice is much appreciated!

I have this EXACT problem, however I received my rod this way. It seems bent from the 4th to last eye to the end of the rod. It doesn't effect performance but it sure does bug me 

Edit: forgot to mention it is a St Croix Bass X 7'4 Heavy. I thought it may be due to the length and heavy action rod 

bent? as in the rod blank is bent? That's the manufacture's fault, and Its not going to get fixed by hanging it.

Well I think it was storing it in the rod cover or always having something tied on and hooked up to the keeper. However, there was never any tension.

Mine is a ML spinnging rod. 6'10"...so I dont think its the weight.

An old bamboo fly rod will take a set if you just lean it against a wall, but not a graphite blank

which is hard & brittle. There's no chance that hanging it from the tiptop guide will remove a kink.

Removing a kink takes a great deal of 'over-bending', which would rupture a graphite blank

before it removes a kink. I know of no possibility other than a manufacturing flaw.

It would be very interesting to hear St Croix's perception of your problem.

I've seen this.  Usually some combination of the rod sitting bent for a long period of time and excessive heat.  You could try to hang it, but I doubt that will work.

The rod has not been stored bent for a long period of time nor been exposed to excessive heat. Perhaps it was due to St. Croix and I was just not diligent enough when I received the rod. I will see what Croix has to say I guess.

Most likely it's always been that way and you just never noticed. The manufacturing process makes a perfectly straight blank next to impossible to produce. Some are better than others but this is why we build on the straightest axis. It won't hurt anything and can not be corrected. 

A graphite rod will not take a set from being stored in a bent position. Bamboo, yes. Old fiberglass, yes. Graphite, no. And nothing you do will straighten it.
