Boat id help

Featured Replies

Looking at buying this boat but it is a 3 hour ride. I am trying to figure out what model it is as I google what I am told nothing comes up. Also is there anything to really look for? This would be my first ever boat. Has a nissan 70 hp outboard is this a good engine? Guy said it is a 1993 TXZ VS18 nothing comes up under google for that.

That looks like a hella old Frankenstein-ed Ranger hull.  Way previous to 93, but I don't know much.

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Unfortunately I can not assist you in that boat ID.

But do applaud your apparent enthusiasm.

Good Luck

Well after running the HIN as suggested it says it is a texas homemade boat. I guess someone built it it their yard?

How y'all are? ;)

Picture of the side would be nice!

During the 70s the number of bass boat manufacturers were in the dozens.

TXZ hull design is very similar to Terry bass boat. The interior looks like what we call fish-n-ski.

My personal opinion steer clear ;)

Need to be sure transom is not cracked.  Engine manufacture plate will be on engine and can be looked up on a search.

Check hull by climbing underneath.  Do a water test on the water.  Got a experienced fiberglass boat mechanic?  Make sure engine trim works and so does tolling motor.  Look in all hatches.  Make sure all switches/gauges work like bilge pump etc.  Three hour drive is a long way.  That cheap of price tells me something not right.  Stay clear unless you have friend that is experienced in fiberglass boats and a friend that is a marine mechanic.

Just from looking at the pics and seeing how the deck or hatches are warped I'd say hard pass on that. If it is in fact a 1993 it was built on an outdated platform. Looks more like late 70's early 80's model boat. I don't know if the nissan motors were good or bad back then, but they weren't very popular, and I think finding parts for them could be an absolute nightmare if something should go wrong. If it were me, I'd keep looking.
