I have narrowed down my next rod purchase to a St Croix mojo spinning rod, either the 6'8" mxf or the 6'10"mlxf. Was hoping for some guidance from more experienced anglers. 

 

I want to use the rod for various finesse applications using plastics such as drop shot, neko, ned rig, shaky head, wacky, Texas rigged, mojo, tubes, etc. (in that order as far as preference).

 

I fish from shore 99% of the time and target both largemouth and smallmouth bass. I live in Ontario, Canada and fish mainly ponds, rivers, and occasionally great lakes. 

 

I know both rods get good reviews and both feel good in the hand, but really wrestling with which one is best suited for the above mentioned finesse techniques without too much sacrifice one way or the other. 

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 

If you're regularly fishing from shore, the shorter rod may make casting around trees, weeds, and other shoreline obstacles a bit easier.  Generally, a medium weight rod will also be much more versatile.  They both have a place, but it's rare that I don't have a Med Fast or X-fast spinning rod with me regardless of conditions - from shore, wading, in the kayak, or in the tin boat.  

I've fished both and IMO, the Wacky Style is one of the most versatile spinning rods I've ever owned and continue to use. 

if I could only have one spinning rod from the mojo series, it would be the 7'1 medium fast action model. It to me is the best compromise for an all purpose spinning setup. I use mine for all of the techniques you mentioned with ease and more 

I've got both of those rods, just from the LTB line. If you asked me to pick one I'd agree with @Bluebasser86 that the M/XF is the most versatile out of those two.  For your first 3 techniques listed, I'd pick the ML, but you can still do that with the M and be better suited to handle the rest of the techniques you have listed.

I'd get a 6'6" Medium Premier.  great all around rod.

Well I bought the mojo wacky 6'8 today. Love the overall feel and can't wait to fish with it.

I like MLXF in Croix rods, but the M should do

you just fine.

Great choice.  Can't go wrong with a St. Croix rod.  Enjoy.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good choice going with the 6'8" M/XF. 

 

Of the 2, the 6'8" M/XF is a more versatile rod. In fact, IMHO you'd be hard pressed to find a more versatile spinning rod from any of the major Mfg's.

So i was at BPS today to check the 6'8" MXF out today.I paired it up with a Daiwa BG 2500 and that setup was amazingly light and balanced.That BG was super smooth too.It will be mine.Im going to pick up the pair next week! 

So I asked the same thing a few weeks ago and pulled the trigger on the 6'8m/xf and trust me it's great all around I love it cast weightless senkos a mile and all other lighter baits 1/8-1/4 no issue at all and has a little stiffer tip which I like and hauled out some nice fla bass for me this past week
