Crappy news but could have worse

Someone spilled water on the floor at my work, and did not clean it up. I stepped around what I saw but stepped in other water, foot went right knee went left. After a ton of swelling and barely being able to walk I got diagnosed with a partially torn MCL. No surgery is required but will be out of commission for 3 weeks to let it heal. Have to wear a hinged knee brace during this period.

Could have been worse, happy there will be no surgery.

Ugh.  That sounds really painful.  Glad it wasn't any worse!

I'm sure you know. But try not to let your other joints get stiff around it. Over 2 1/2 years spent in casts on separate occasions have taught me this. I'm not sure what doc says about moving the knee? but make sure your ankle, hip, and all muscles/tendons around the knee are at least getting stretched .

I can move it and not spending to much time sitting around. Just have to wear the hinge brace when out and about. The biggest issues are steps and uneven surfaces. Trying to run the trolling motor or adjusting all the time to a moving surface in waves is a big no no.

take the 3 weeks to recover well and get back to fishing in one whole piece.  good luck on a speedy recovery!

Sorry to hear about your injury.  Here's hoping for a quick recovery.  I'm getting a knee replacement in a few weeks, so I know what you're going through.  Good luck.

Oh man, Brian. So sorry. Been there when I took

son #2 for a spin - him on his "bike" and me on

inline skates. Son went one way, me and my left

knee when another.... No surgery, no tears, just

bruises and soreness for months.

Wish you the quickest recovery :)

So sorry to read about your slip and fall.

Hopefully WC will come into play and pick up the bills and continue 66.6% of your salary after the waiting period.

Two comments:

On the good side, you can stay home and miss the big snow storm heading your way.

On the bad side, once you damage your knee it will just get worse as time goes by and one day you will need surgery to repair it.

Be sure to keep a diary so you can go back and have the WC carrier pay for the surgery.

All I can add is do what they say to do at dog obedience! school: Heal!

Have to respectfully disagree with eventually needing surgery down the road if it was truly "just" and isolated MCL sprain. ACL and meniscus tears (especially if s/p meniscectomy) do predispose someone to needing additional scopes or a total joint replacement down the road at a younger age vs a never injured knee, but in your case you should be fine in a few weeks. You'll be out of commission for 3 weeks but don't be surprised if it takes 6-8 weeks to start feeling normal again.

Agreed, I did that once. A sprain/partial tear which was awful pain for days and still took several weeks before feeling back to normal, but if you treat it right it will repair itself. A full tear is a different animal, requiring surgery and lengthy rehab.

As for could be worse, Google "Ilizarov". I've worn variations of that contraption on four separate occasions on the same leg. It couldn't actually get worse than that in my opinion.

It is just a partial tear, just a matter of giving it time to heal. Did get about 7 inches of snow from the storm but seems my wife enjoys the plow on the atv. Everything is already cleared, i never had to limp outside.

Should you change your handle to BrianinER now? Maybe take that whole MD thing out; bad irony?

JK of course. Wishing you the speediest recovery bud.

Those can heal?  Who knew?  BTW, you have GOT to come up with a better story!  You know something to do with Mt Whitney, or soccer, or even golf!!! ;)

no need for a story, truth always works just fine.
