Going to College

Recommended Posts

It's official! I just enrolled in the University of Alabam's Class of 2021 to study Political Science and Economics in their College of Arts and Sciences. I am very excited for the new opportunities that await me, including to be able to explore the outdoors in the Tuscaloosa area.

Roll Tide!

I'm sure they have a fishing team. Good luck and never stop the search for knowledge.

I'm certainly planning on looking into that. One of my roommate also likes fishing and hunting and such so hopefully we definitely should get to spend some time outside. Thanks for the well wishes as well.

Now let me get this straight.

You are from the cold north and you have enrolled in the University of Alabama, with all those beautiful coeds, great weather, outstanding sports, wonderful bass fishing, the Gulf, and Dreamland for ribs????????

Wow!

You are smarter than anyone could imagine, other than going to LSU.

Very proud of you getting accepted.

But take it from an old guy who used to recruit undergraduate students for LSU:  it is harder to get out of college then get in.

So be sure to study; keep up your grades; go to the football games (nothing like it other than for Tiger Stadium with 100,000 drunk coonasses) and have the best five or six yeas of your life.

Congrats and keep us posted on your college activities and the fresh and saltwater fishing you can sneak in between dates, sports, and having a great time. :D:D:D

Enjoy your time at college. I know I did. I will say this however, go to class and go to learn. Wish sometimes I would have spent more time learning than just cramming for tests and then forgetting everything the minute I handed in my test. Be careful not to run up a bunch of debt. It is easy to rack up hundreds of dollars by going out to bars and putting it on a credit card. The best advice I can give you is to take care of your credit. Once it goes south it is a pain to get back.

Thanks! I willl mention that when I was on campus last, I had Dreamland recommended to me by a student, and had to try it. Great ribs, and tons of character! I'm looking forward to some Crimson Tide football, and maybe a few good times at fraternity houses as well. But I will definitely make sure to keep up on the studies, and the fishing! One of my roommates knows a lot of slots that are only 15 minutes away from campus for some great fishing.

I most certainly will make sure to be careful with debt. My main goal is to get through my undergraduate degree without any debt and I know I can accomplish that if I am smart with my money, as I have a full tuition scholarship from the university. But I do intend on getting involved in academic pursuits, specifically student government, which has been known as a stomping ground for many who later went on to be leaders in many fields in Alabama and all across the southeast.

If you have not already visited the Bear Bryant museum please put it on the top of your bucket list when you get to campus.

Your family and friends will also enjoy the museum.

Loved the videos of the Bear after the games. Check them out.

Be sure to study and since you are considering politics please make sure to have some strong English courses, including debate, if offered.

Good luck and have some fun!!!!

I will definitely make a point to go see it when I am back on campus for orientation. I'm sure it will be interesting, as I love the history aspect of things. I will most certainly look into those courses as well, I am thinking about minoring in either English or History. The hope is to go to law school at Alabama or another school that offers a dual JD/MBA program where you can get both degrees and sit for BAR or CPA exams in 4 years. Thanks for the well wishes.

lol that's the hope. No golfing trips to Camp David trips for me hahaha. And I most certainly will. My roommate's dad has a boat and we are hoping to spend some time on Lake Tuscaloosa for sure!
