Hey guys, need suggestions for a descent Cranking rod for throwing Deep Crankbaits, 10xds 8xds 6xds.  Cranking depths 15-40ft for Toledo Bend Hogs.

My question is what a good crankbait rod for the money?  I keep hearing glass is recommended for crankbait rods, what is the benefit of this over graphite?

 

 

St. Croix Legend glass.  I don't have one...yet, but I love St. Croix rods and their new Legend Glass rods look stellar.  

Look at Hammer Rods cranking series

A 6xd and a 10xd are most likely going to require a different rod. As for the material, a simple search on here or the Google machine will give you dozens of articles on the benefits of different rod materials. 

 

I recommend looking at the Dobyns Champion line. Primarily the 736CB glass, 805CB, or 806CB.

10XD is a completely different rod than a 6XD.

Check out the Phenix X series of composite crank rods. 

I use the X11 which is thier "deep diver" rod rated to 3oz. 

The X11 is 7' but the X13 is 7' 6" with the same spec. 

 

I throw 1.5's with it and does well. 

 

The X10 is a little lighter 7' rod and X12 is 7' 6" which is rated the same (which I should have bought as I rarely throw anything bigger  with it if at all.)

I prefer moderate action graphite rods.  I use a 7-11 MH/Moderate with a 5.5:1 reel spooled with 12# Tatsu or Rippin'.
