Question about stained water cranks?

Featured Replies

Hey guys whats up,

I have a B.A.S.S. tournament this weekend and the lake we are fishing on is somewhat stained. Whats colors should i choose for a deep diving crankbait?

Thanks

David

The deeper the water your fishing the less light penetration, especially with stained water.

Im not an expert crankbait fisherman, but I would throw somthing that really stands out.

Red is the first color to loose its "true color" in water but it still resembles a darker shade even thourh itsnot truly red.

I would try maybe red, maybe a few bluegill patterns with an orange belly and black. Somthing that stands out.

It also all depends what the fish are feeding on too, visibility is very important but most cranks give off a relatively good ammount of sound and vibration.

in stained water i absolutely love Chartreuse with a Blue Back.  DD22 or DT16 in that color should catch you some nice fish.

I'm not convinced at lightless depths that the color is going to make much difference, as whatever color it is will be muted by the time it gets down there (ask a diver what color your crankbait is by the time it hits 15').

That said - - a highly contrasted back to the sides seems (to me) to cause a bigger visual cue of movement - - a bright pearl bait with a black back is a good example.   I dig that color as well as any (and the yellow/black back pattern).

Good choice.

yellow/orange/white/ make the bait hit the botto and drag it so the fish can find it better

Firetiger all the way! And dont only fish the deep water, with it being stained they will often lay in the shallows and ambush minnows and other baitfish, and the up side is you can get a little closer to them! Goodluck!

I have always been a big fan of gold colored cranks is stained or deep water. if that doesn't work i will switch to something bright. yellow, red, fire tiger, chartrouse or plain old white/pearl.
