Lowrance HDS 7

Occasionally my flush mounted Lowrance HDS 7 will short out and the screen "restarts" when I'm bouncing in waves.  It doesn't stay off, it just goes blank and then restarts and reboots back up which can take anywhere from 10-30 seconds.  What could be the cause of this problem?

I had a boater that had that problem intermittently until it went out completely one day during the tournament.

I believe his connection in the bracket was the culprit.

Connection in the bracket?  What does that mean?

It does sound like a connectivity issue in your unit, but 'not' in the transducer or transducer cable.

Fire-up the unit in your driveway and do a shake-test at every wire and connection.

Hopefully it's not internal.

The way his was installed, it was mounted on a bracket at the helm.  The bracket had a male/female connector that the unit plugged into.  That connection on the bracket malfunctioned

I called Lowrance and they suggested to check the connection at the battery.  So I disconnected it, re-connected it, and tightened up things a little.  The problem has not returned since.
