Reel Problem??

Featured Replies

Not sure where to post this question. I guess this is more of a hardware problem. Me and my friend caught a largemouth and I hooked it pretty bad. In the chaos of trying to get 3 hooks out of the fish we dropped our rods into the sand/water (we were at a lake). We didn't notice anything until we casted and then tried to reel in. It wouldn't reel in smooth--barely reeling in at all. When it was it sounded really gritty--but I can't see sand anywhere? There was just some on the line. How should I correct this? Do I disassemble, spray with WD 40 and lube it? If so are there any lubes I can get at Wal-Mart? I'm just trying to salvage the reels and hope it isn't a real issue (no pun intended.)

Thanks!

Eric

First, I moved this to the right category.  Second, A gentle rinse is all takes to remove any dirt and debris that might have gotten there.  It sounds like you may have actually broke something when dropping it.  Last, do not use WD-40.  What kind of reel is it?

I agree with John, a gentle rinse is better than a strong blast

that'll force abrasive grains into inaccessible pockets.

WD-40 smells real nice, but don't spray it on internal reel components.
