I decided this year im gonna polish up my cranking skills. I usually use a 7ft mh fast rod but i want to get a technique sepecific rod for cranks. 

The cranks i will be throwing are rapala dt 6, 10 and 14.

Im mostly a lews guy so i was looking at the fritz palmer cranking rods. My question is should i go with a medium or medium heavy? Seems like my lure weights fit the medium but i see most guys go with the medium heavy.

The Lews Fritts line are composite rods that are a little beefier that other manufacturers. The medium is rated 3/8oz to 1oz, that is what you want for the baits you are going to use, the medium heavy will work but it may be tough to get a good cast with the DT-6.

For crankbaits around a 1/4 ounce I like to use a 6'6" Med. spinning outfit.  When I am fishing with heavier crankbaits, or deep running baits that have some resistance I like a 7'0" MH casting rig.

Check out the Phenix X series of rods, they are designed specifically for cranking.

It's not about what the rods rated for, it's more about the rod being able to handle the drag from a large billed lured like a DT14. Honestly, the DT14 is on the borderline for needing a heavy power.

 

If you only have the budget for one cranking rod, get a MH cranking rod. It will still handle the DT6 and it will be good enough for light use of the DT14. 

Im thinking i will get the mh. And later on ill get a medium. Thanks guys

I agree with you but the composite David Fritts rods from Lews are stout. That medium power rod is probably close to a 5 power or MH from other manufacturers, the MH is that line will make it tough casting anything under 1/2oz for any reasonable distance.

I still think the 705cb is not built to handle the deeper cranks like the dt14. If you are looking at the Fritts rods, I'd pick the MH. A Medium will just wear you out.

Dobyns Champion 805CB is a very good rod,   Maybe I missed it but I did not hear you mention what type of material you were looking for, glass, CF or composite.   If I were only going to have 1 I think my choice would be CF.
