McKee Craft ?

Featured Replies

I just picked this up, I have no cash in it. Do you think it is worth repairing. The PO said it had engine trouble [ run and cut off , gas or carbs I think]. Hull seams solid. I sort of like the looks of it.

No.

I agree with A-Jay

The hull is totaled. Under the fiberglass floor deck is foam and wood. I would be very surprised if the foam wasn't waterlogged which is not good for the wood. The motor is probably totaled but if it were free I would do a compression check, rebuild the carbs and see if I could get it running. It very obviously spent a lot of time sitting in the water.

You might get something for the trailer if it is all there and sound.

Scrap the boat, sell the trailer, the seat posts, and the motor for parts, and you will be ahead of the game. Or donate it to charity and take a tax write off.

Thanks guys, had to ask

Don't be so hasty to scrap it.  It looks a lot like a Boston Whaler which is two thin skins of fiberglass over a foam core.  Even the transom has no wood in it.

My neighbor got one in much worse condition and we made a barter deal.  I'd provide the labor, and he'd return the favor in kind down the road.  His had several holes, dings and cracks in several areas of the hull.

Here's a few before and after photos.

As an aside, this boat is nearly sixty years old.

Tri-hull boats have THE worst ride you can imagine. Unless the water is smooth as glass, they will just beat up the passengers. Don't waste a lot of time and money on a boat you won't like down the road.
