Baby Duck Lures

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have been looking at baby duck lures on eBay.  Has anyone ever used a baby duck lure with success?  If so, what was the color and size of the lure?  Was thinking about buying one and taking it to work.  A lot of people don't believe that fish will eat small birds.

Thank you,

The smaller Savage Gear Suicide Duck has caught me some fish. I have the wood duck color. They didn't have the white when I bought mine, I'd probably go with the white if I did it over now.

Blue Basser do you only throw it in the spring? I had thought about trying one but wasn't sure if it would only be good for spring fishing since that's when most baby ducks are on the water.

I have the smaller size Savage Gear Duck and the first time I threw stuck a couple of bass with it  and missed another strike fishing it about an hour that first time . So far so good in a short period of time. Think of it as a floating buzzbait that you can stop during the retrieve or you can fish it real slow if needed and it looks like more natural than a buzzbait . That said I'm not overlooking buzzbaits as they are a proven lure.  The Savage Duck looks good in the water and I plan on throwing it some more when the opportunity presents itself for topwater fishing .

It looks very gimmicky, but so did the rat and I've caught a bunch of fish off the rat this year.

Persuader Bass Lures has made a baby duck lure for a few decades, it works but looks like a toy. The duck is a baby mallard about 3" long bill to tail and floats upright with a flat bottom, very realistic looking on the water. The duck doesn't have any action on it's own requiring a slow stop and go retrieve.

No, it's still catching fish for me now long after the baby ducks have lost their downy feathers. I'm sure it still looks like various different things a fish would want to eat.
