Gettin my first bass boat tomorrow!

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! Tomorrow is a big day for me, Im driving over to Lake Hartwell and looking at what may be my first iver bass boat.  Its a 17 1/2 ft. 1997 Nitro 770 with  115hp merc engine.  Comes with trolling motor and 2 fishfinders.  His price is 5900 but im gonna try to get him down.  What do you guys think? Sound good?

Water test it before you purchase it.  Also, make sure you stand on both front and back decks to make sure there are no weak spots.  Just go over everything and be sure everything works properly, and if it doesn't, start deducting the price of the boat.

Pay VERY close attention to those crossmembers on the trailer. Nitro's tubular frame trailers were infamous for rusting from the inside out.

Ya any more tips at what to look for?  Pile them on me, because I'm leaving tomorrow to get it.

Ya, ha I'm pretty nervous.  I've figured this may be the best or worst day of my life.  Ha so I'm pretty anxious.  I'll give you guys a run down tonight when I come home with it or without it.

WOOO! I got it, and boy I think im in love.  Its amazing on the water, I can cruise at 50 mph(which is to fast for me) and the trolling motor is really easy to use and has 50lbs. of thrust!  It jsut needs a good cleaning.  Which brings me to my next question.  How do I clean this thing?  Im too scared to use turtle wax car wash and im not sure if the carpet of fish finder should get wet.  Ugh the bane of being a noob ;)

Ya the guy in the green shirt is me.  I'm uber excited now to just clean the thing from top to bottom and to paint those trailer wheels blue!!!  So anyone know what a good wax is for bass boats? I want Beatrice to get her luster back.

Meguiars makes a poly-sealant for fiberglass, along with a marine wax.  Wash your boat and get rid of any scum-line, etc.  Follow with a coat of the sealant, then a coat of the wax.  They also make a cleaner/wax in a spray bottle.  For really good results, spray your boat with that after each trip and wipe it down.

If you really want to clean it up good, get some spray carpet cleaner foam.  Drag the hose into the boat with you.  Wet down the carpet, then spray it with the foam, followed by a scrubbing with a brush, then rinse with the hose.  (Tilt the nose of the boat up and make sure the drain plug is out).  After the boat drains, you can blot up excess water with some towels, then let it dry.  Make sure you vacuum it before you scrub.

OR....you could do like some of my buddies do and just drive it into the closest car wash and do your carpet in there.....
