I tried this for the first time a few weeks ago and caught several bass.  The action is incredible.  Just like the banjo minnow. hehe.

 

I used a CPS ring to increase the lifespan of the fluke.

Question, using an Owner CPS and the hook through the body you go through quite a few Flukes. Hooking it this way, how many do you go through? Does the CPS not get pulled out as much?

I do weightless, but I get really great movement on a Slider Spider Slider Heads by Charlie brewer. I twitch and let fall a little twitch/jerk etc.

Peggged 3/8 oz?   As you learned, distance doesn't mean jack, if you can't get bit.  You killed all that is good about the fluke.  I generally throw it weightless, or on a scrounger.  On those concessional rare times that I feel the need to put a weight out front, it will only be a (unpegged) 1/16 cylinder (mojo) that will take it into and through the grass.

The CPS stays intact.  I only got three fish off the fluke that day and it was my first time fluke fishing but it seemed to hold up very well.

My fluke tech. is:

 

Buy  a bag, carry them around in the boat for a while. Use one bait out of the bag when nothing else I do is working, not catch much on them, give the rest of the bag away to a buddy or toss them in the trash. Yeah, not a big fluke fan or user.

I have some pearl white flukes and so far the most bites I got on them was at night. 

On a weighted hook or weightless,They produce all year on the river.Like the shiner color.
