Just wanted to say hey to everyone from Texas!

 

I'm new to fishing in the serious sense. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I've already got a couple of rods and done some research and stuff online about which lures to use in various situations however, I don't know what line to use to catch what fish and how to set up the right drag or anything. So, any and all learning is appreciated!

Hello and welcome aboard! When it comes to line it depends on things like water clarity, size lures you're using, recommended size line for your reel and what not. If the water is really clear you may wanna go with flourocarbon, if you can afford it, or even mono will work ok. In stained and dingy water you can use the same lines as listed above or you can use braided line, if you can afford it. If you use braided line you can get a heavier pound test than what your reel is rated for just make sure the diameter is equivalent to the same highest pound test that your reel is rated for. I'm still learning myself but I think I'm correct about that info. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the drag should be set to about 1/3 of the pound test line you're using. For instance if you're using 6lb. test line then your drag should be set at about 2lbs. Hope this helps.
