what a drag!

Featured Replies

hey whats up guys, so i been fishing since i was a kid. my dad got me into when i was young and after my parents divorced and i didnt see him much, i was still into it. i remember living in a apartment second floor and practicing casting off the balcony. anyway i couldnt fish much as a kid in texas but when i moved to washington state i was still into. when i was bout 14 i moved to black diamond washington met a good friend and lived about a 10 minute walk from sawer lake which is a big lake. i got back into it heavy. me and my friend steven would hang out at a rv resort watching the fishing chanel on there little tv in the game room. i fished alot but mostly only used spinners and worms i still caught good though. then in my teens i started getting in trouble. i got out of fishing for a long time, had a kid when i was 18. and as years went on only went now a then over years. now that i am 26 this year i got hooked again. i relized back then i really like fishing but didnt know much. i have alot to learn and love to learn. i want to know about how things work and why. what bait/tackle works and why, where fish hang out and when there in certain areas. like i said i been into fishing for a long time and i knew what i knew and still caught but i was mostly a worm jigger and really in touch with lake sawer. i made this intro to give yall a idea of who i am as a fisherman and my skill level, also to let you know i am new here and will be asking alot of questions so i hope yall dont mind.

first thing for now, how does drag work on a reel. and how should i have it set. i have a med action rod,and 8lb line reel i was using. but i bought a light action rod/reel for fun, so as far as now im using a light action weith a reel thats using 6lb line. reel goes up to 6.5 lbs. so back in the day id just randomly adjust the drag. as far as now i will adjust it to be not to tight but not to loose, also how does drag affect the line.

First off, Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource.

There's a decent chance your post may get relocated to the Introductions thread - so if it disappears - look for it there.

As for your questions - I'd start in the BR article section,  There's a ton of really valuable info there -

Check it out ~ https://www.bassresource.com/how-to-fish/
