Reel is loose on my reel seat. What can I do?

Featured Replies

I've got an Elite Tech Smallmouth rod with a Revo Winch mounted on it.  Tonight was the first time I caught a fish on this combo.  As I was reeling the fish in the reel was wobbling in the reel seat.  I checked and the nut was fully tightened down.

I'm sure there is something I can do about this, just not sure what.  Can anyone recommend something?

Thanks,

Dave

Either shim under the reel foot with a thin strip of plastic or lightly tape around the ends of the reel foot.

Known issue with Elite Tech Smallmouth baitcasters, and I have had the same with mine on certain reels (lews and Daiwa). Simple fix: a little electrical tape on the reel feet to bulk them up slightly, or stick a small folded piece in there as a shim.

OK, guys, thanks for the tips.  I think I will try a bit of electrical tape on the reel feet tomorrow.

Almost lost an arrowana because of that reel seat. Best value rod I've ever owned though.

I used a small piece of heat shrink tube on the reel foot. Easy on easy off. And cheap too.

Shrink tubing is the best thing to use the tape usally bleeds out the sticky parts after a while

I'd go with the heat shrink as well BUT when it comes to my equipment I want and expect it to work as advertised 100% of the time. I would want to know why it's loose and have the rod company fix the problem. I don't pay $or $200-$300 for a reel for it to make all kinds of noise (I'd take them back if it were $10). Just as you guys would not pay $1500 for a set of tires for one of them to wobble and try fixing it instead of having the dealer replace it! You pay good money for your equipment at whatever the price point is so don't settle for something working as it should!

I will usually wrap the tips of my reel feet in plumbers tape to make sure it stays snug.
