Drop Shot Reel ($200 or less)

Featured Replies

I'm am looking to get into drop shotting. I will be buying a 6'9" ML/XF St.Croix avid spinning rod. I just need a reel to go with it. $200 is my max. What suggestions do you guys have?

Shimano Stradic CI4 can be sourced under 200.  Great reel and very light.

What size do you recommend?

I think most bass guys use a 2500. I just bought a Stradic CI4+ 2500. JUst saying, not that I am right, or wrong for that matter.

I prefer the 2500 size for dropshotting.

I use the 2000 sized reels.  They are lighter and smaller.  Never had any issues of any kind and my two oldest advantage 2000 are still running strong.  I fish 3-4 days a week and they get use every outing.  My son uses them also after I was tired of fighting with kid gear.  I run 6lb flourocarbon or braid.  If you plan on using over 6 then the larger spool will make a big difference

How about a lot less....$35 on eBay for US Reel X180 spinning reel. This reel is light weight, has a oversize spool to reduce line twist and good drag. This reel retailed for over $90 before the company went out of business. Also look at Don Iovino's Major craft finesse rod at $120, the combo would be $155.

Not good enough for you....Iovino fishes tournaments with this combo!
