Guide came off my MBR844C IMX. Help!!

Featured Replies

I was throwing a frog tonight with my 844C IMX when I heard an aweful racket.  Then a rattling as I started to retrieve my frog.  Turns out the guide just below the tip came off (I suspect the braid wrapped around it and yanked on it, which caused the racket). It didn't break.  It is a single foot guide and just pulled out of the wrap.  I was able to slide it back in place and its still pretty snug, but still has me worried.  I don't want to fish it again until its fixed.  Should I have a professional rewrap it, or would carefully epoxying it back in place be sufficient?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Have it done right.

The epoxy used in guides is not the kind you'd find in a hardware store.

I love learning things and am very hands on, but for something that precious, I think I'd defer such tasks to someone experienced and capable, preferably locally too.

I realize the process is simple but might not be easy without experience.

I second rws recommendation

Use G. Loomis lifetime warranty* or put a drop of clear finger nail polish on the guide foot and slip back under the rod wrap and call it a day. Rod tip cement is wax base. The blank guides are coated with expozy.

* $$$ for a guide repair.

It costs about $10-$15 to have the guide rewrapped. I'd get it fixed right, just for the piece of mind. Last thing you want is for it to pop out again when you have a fish on the end of the line.

FYI,  I was told by the person that fixes mine,  NEVER use super glue,  even for a temporary fix.

The only guide that glued to the rod blank is the tip guide, all the others are held onto the blank via the thread wraps and the clear lacquer coating applied to the wrap. Coating the guide foot top surface and sliding it back into the hole it came out of will not harm the rod blank.

Don't use super glue, clear finger nail polish lacquer works OK for a fix. Getting the guide re wrapped locally is obviously the your best choice. Contacting Loomis is another option, their prices are high!
